Study on the preparation and properties of lignin-based flexible polyurethane foams with NaCl as a medium SCIE

Abstract :

Currently, most polyols used in polyurethane foam (PUF) synthesis are derived from petrochemicals. However, lignin as the most abundant aromatic biopolymer rich in hydroxyl groups, is a suitable filler for synthesizing polyurethane foam. Therefore, in this study, Kraft lignin (KL) was utilized as a partial substitute for flexible polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400). After adding 15 % KL, NaCl was introduced as a medium for synthesizing LFPUF and Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was used as a foam stabilizer. Lignin-based flexible polyurethane foam (LFPUF) with high elasticity was synthesized. The aromatic ring structure of KL acted as a reinforcement for the foam, while the flexible PEG400 provided excellent flexibility to LFPUF. Na+ interacts with oxygen atoms in the long chain of PEG to form a cyclic crown ether structure. This promotes proximity and ordering of the hydroxyl groups, thereby facilitating proton transfer and optimising the cell size of the foam. Ultimately, the foam synthesized with 3 % NaCl (LFPUF-3%NaCl) exhibited an average cell size and hole size of 484.1 and 183.6 mu m, respectively, significantly smaller than those of the foam synthesized without NaCl (843.5 and 249.3 mu m, respectively). The foam resilience and elastic recovery of LFPUF-3%NaCl were 39.56 and 99.03 %, respectively, which was higher than that of the foam synthesized without NaCl (20.36 % and 97.08 %, respectively). In addition, LFPUF-3%NaCl maintained a high elastic recovery of 97.61 % after 20 cycles of compression. The egg drop test demonstrated that the foam effectively provided protective cushioning for fragile items.

Abstract :

Polyurethane (PU) can be synthesized by replacing petrochemical polyols partially with lignin, thus improving the environmental benefit and the comprehensive performance of the foam. Herein, sulfomethylated Kraft lignin (SKL) is obtained by sulfonation of Kraft lignin (KL), and then it is used as filler to synthesize the sulfomethylated lignin-based flexible polyurethane foam (SLFPUF). The effects of SKL with different sulfonations on SLFPUF are explored. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis shows that when the sulfonation is 0.286 mmol/g, the residual mass is 12.63 % that is higher (3.35 %) compared to the control group lignin-based flexible polyurethane foam (LFPUF), indicating better thermal stability. The support factor (SF) of SLFPUF-0.286 is 4.99, higher than that of LFPUF (1.89), showing good softness. The air flow of SLFPUF-0.286 is 756.9 Pa, lower than that of LFPUF (996.8 Pa), demonstrating good comfort. Moreover, the resiliency of SLFPUF-0.286 is 9.67 %, exhibiting a shape memory property, which has potential applications in the production of functional products with low resilience.

Abstract :

Mulberry paper (MP) is an ideal substrate for fabricating electrodes with high specific capacitance and flexibility. In this paper, carbon black (CB) and aminated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (AMWCNTs) are used as the substrate of MP, which improves the specific capacitance, mechanical flexibility and safety properties of paperbased electrode composites. The polypyrrole (PPy) is loaded onto the composites to improve the low loading of polypyrrole on MP and the excessive resistance of the electrodes through synergistic effects. The paper-based electrode (CB/AMWCNTs/PPy-MP) obtained by a three-step simple process not only has a remarkable area specific capacitance of 2223 mF cm- 2 at 2 mA cm- 2, but also has good mechanical toughness, environmental stability and flame retardant properties. An all-solid-state supercapacitor with an area specific capacitance of 471.2 mF cm- 2 is assembled by composite electrodes, and the maximum energy and power densities are 21.39 mu Wh cm- 2 and 4.58 mW cm- 2, respectively, and it could be bent from 0 degrees to 90 degrees without affecting its performance. This provides an effective method for preparing renewable flexible energy storage devices.

机械精浆处理对竹材化学热磨机械浆性能的影响研究

Abstract :

以竹材化学热磨机械浆(CTMP)为原料,利用PFI磨浆机对其进行机械精浆处理,探讨了精浆处理对纸浆纤维形态、湿部化学特性及其纸张性能的影响。结果表明,机械精浆处理降低了纤维的平均长度,提高了细小纤维含量及其留着率,纸浆的溶解电荷量增加,但是纸浆的滤水性、Zeta电位和酸性基团含量下降;同时,精浆处理改善了纸张的抗张指数、耐破指数以及初始湿抗张指数。当纸浆打浆度由15°SR提高到40°SR时,纤维质均长度从0.788 mm下降到0.459 mm,细小纤维含量从6.30%提高到7.30%,细小纤维留着率从93.5%提高到96.0%,纸浆的溶解电荷量从1.325μeq/g增加到2.010μeq/g,但其Zeta电位绝对值从75.4 mV下降至53.2 mV,降低了29.4%,纸张抗张指数从6.55 N·m/g增加到9.81 N·m/g,初始湿抗张指数从0.271 N·m/g提高至0.290 N·m/g,分别提高了49.8%和7.0%。

Abstract :

Piezocatalysis is a burgeoning sustainable technology due to its attractive potential in solving environmental and resource issues with various mechanical energies. Herein, a high-performance freestanding composite piezocatalyst was synthesized by combining few-layer MoS2 nanosheets with highly porous flexible carbonaceous matirx derived from melamine sponge (CMS), which can greatly harvest mild mechanical energies to trigger off piezoelectric effect for efficient dye degradation. Under mechanical stirring, the developed MoS2/CMS showed distinguished piezocatalytic degradation efficiency (99.8% within 10 min) for Rhodamine B (Rh B) dye solution. Besides, as a brick-shaped piezo-active platform, the MoS2/CMS is easy to be recycled and can remain excellent stability with over 90% degradation rate after 7 cycles of repeated catalytic reactions. To investigate its practical application potential, the MoS2/CMS was mounted in the pipeline of a homemade circulatory system, which was completely decolored 2.0 L Rh B aqueous solution after 2 h under a circulating flow of 30 mL min-1. Overall, this work presents an efficient and extensible strategy for construction of high-performance piezocatalytic materials with not only a desired integrated structure to produce sensitive deformations under mild mechanical stimuli, but also a freestanding form with excellent recyclability to alleviate secondary pollution. This research would provide viable guidance for promoting piezoelectric materials towards practical applications for wastewater decontamination.

KOH共热法和水热活化法制备多孔竹活性炭的比较

Abstract :

我国竹材资源丰富,以竹废料为原料,制备可用于超级电容器电极材料的竹活性炭,有助于推动竹产业发展,助力国家“双碳”目标实现。在本研究中,分别采用KOH共热和水热处理对竹粉进行活化,并对制备的竹活性炭进行电化学性能、比表面积、表面微观形貌等测试。实验结果表明,KOH共热活化法的最佳条件为炭化温度350℃,活化温度900℃,升温速率2℃/min,碱炭质量比4∶1;制备的活性炭比表面积为3 299 m~2/g, 0.5 A/g电流密度下的比电容为287.8 F/g, 5 000次充放电测试后,电容保持率为95%~105%。水热活化法的最佳条件为KOH质量分数20%,反应温度150℃,反应时间12 h,制备的活性炭比表面积为192.91 m~2/g, 0.5 A/g电流密度下的比电容为170.4 F/g,电容保持率为88.89%。2种方法制备的活性炭孔径结构都是以微孔为主,中孔混合分布,含有少量大孔;2种活性炭均含有双层或多层石墨烯结构,但水热活化法制备的活性炭石墨化程度更高,制备条件更温和。研究结果既可为超级电容器用活性炭的研究提供了理论思路,也有效地扩展了竹材的应用领域。

Abstract :

The preparation of natural polymer-based highly conductive hydrogels with reliable durability for applications in supercapacitors (SCs) is still challenging. Herein, a facile method to prepare alkaline lignin (AL)-based polypyrrole (PPy)-rich, high-conductive PPy@AL/PEGDGE gel was reported, where AL was used as a dopant, polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PEGDGE) as a cross-linking agent, and PPy as a conducting polymer. The PPy@AL/PEGDGE gel electrode materials with hollow structures were prepared by electrochemical deposition and chemical etching method and then assembled into sandwich-shaped SCs. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanotactic charge discharge (GCD), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cycling stability tests of the PPy@AL/PEGDGE SCs were performed. The results demonstrated that the SCs can achieve a conductivity of 25.9 S center dot m- 1 and a specific capacitance of 175 F center dot g- 1, which was 127.4 % higher compared to pure PPy (77 F center dot g- 1) electrode. The highest energy density and power density for the SCs were obtained at 23.06 Wh center dot kg- 1 and 5376 W center dot kg- 1, respectively. In addition, the cycling performance was also higher than that of pure PPy assembled SCs (50 %), and the capacitance retention rate can reach 72.3 % after 1000 cycles. The electrode materials are expected to be used as sensor and SCs devices.

Study on the effect of combined and free lignin to the cellulose enzymatic hydrolysis SCIE

Abstract :

This study compares the behavior of combined and free lignin on the cellulose enzymatic hydrolysis (EH). The combined lignin refers to the lignin naturally existed in the lignocellulose and the free lignin refers to the cellulolytic enzyme lignin. Three kinds of lignocelluloses (i.e., Moso bamboo, horsetail pine and aspen) are chosen for the research. Lignin is mainly biosynthesized of guaiacyl (G), syringyl (S), and p-hydroxyphenyl (H) structural units. The HSQC NMR analysis shows that the free lignin of Moso bamboo, horsetail pine and aspen are mainly composed of G-S-H, G-H and G-S type lignin units, respectively. Furthermore, a blood glucose meter (BGM), UV and fluorescence spectrophotometer are used to determine the cellulose conversion, enzyme adsorption and fluorescence intensities in the EH. It shows that the combined lignin has a weaker inhibitory effect on the EH breakdown than the free lignin. The influence of EH follows the order of Moso bamboo > aspen > horsetail pine. This study can be applied to the development of theoretical guidelines for mitigating the residual prohibition of lignin in the lignocellulose EH.

This study employed a one-step synthesis method to prepare Beta zeolites (BZs) with various SiO2/Al2O3 ratios and applied them as catalysts in the process of producing bio-oil from Kraft lignin (KL). The research investigated the changes in acidity and pore size of BZs under different SiO2/Al2O3 ratios and their impact on the catalytic pyrolysis products of KL. Characterization and a series of physicochemical analyses of BZ with different SiO2/Al2O3 ratios as well as catalytic pyrolysis products were carried out. The Pearson correlation coefficient was also used to correlate BZ SiO2/Al2O3 ratios and the acidity/pore size of BZ as well as the distribution of the products and the deoxygenation effect. The results indicate that BZs with different SiO2/Al2O3 ratios can effectively catalyze the upgrading of KL during pyrolysis. BZ with SiO2/Al2O3 ratios of 45 exhibited stronger acidity, a more prominent layered porous structure, and a more orderly distribution of mesopores. It showed the best catalytic upgrading effect on KL, achieving a product yield of 58.4 %. More prominently, the oxygen content is reduced to 14.19 % and the deoxygenation extent of the heavy oil reached 37.1 %.
