Abstract :
This study assesses the impact of electricity market reforms on the total factor productivity (TFP) of Chinese firms. Based on data on Chinese listed firms from 2011 to 2021, we employ the difference-in-differences method to test our hypothesis. We find that electricity market reforms improve TFP among firms in the electricity industry by easing market segmentation. This positive effect is particularly pronounced in firms that are state-owned, located in non-provincial capital cities, or led by CEOs with foreign experience or who are younger. This study contributes to the existing literature on the effects of electricity market reforms at the firm level and provides implications for improving productivity.

Abstract :
As key stakeholders, customers no longer passively accept services or goods from suppliers; instead, they actively influence suppliers. Based on stakeholder theory, this study suggests that customers with high Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance exert pressure on and share resources with upstream suppliers to enhance their products' environmental attributes, thereby influencing suppliers' green innovation. Using a paired customer-supplier sample of Chinese listed firms from 2009 to 2022, this study finds that customers' ESG performance is positively associated with suppliers' green innovation. Further analysis reveals that customers' ESG performance promotes collaborative green innovation rather than independent green innovation. The positive influence of customers' ESG performance on suppliers' green innovation is amplified when suppliers and customers have more common institutional investors or are geographically closer. This effect is also stronger when suppliers operate in highly competitive industries, or when customers possess stronger innovation capabilities.

Abstract :
Innovation is critical for firms' survival and development. Joining prior research exploring how certain CEOs' personalities influence firm innovation, this study pays attention to the role of CEO self-oriented perfectionism. Building on the upper echelons theory and the attention-based view, we argue that CEO self-oriented perfectionism promotes firm innovation, with information search persistence serving as a positive mediating mechanism. Moreover, the positive relationship between CEO information search persistence and firm innovation will be weakened when environmental uncertainty is high. Using a two-wave survey dataset of 152 CEOs in China, we verify the theoretical model empirically. This study enriches the antecedents of firm innovation from the executive level, contributes to a deep understanding of the underlying mechanisms behind the association between CEO personalities and firm innovation, and offers new insights into the studies on perfectionism.

Abstract :
PurposeIn recent years, a global trend toward nationalism has emerged. This study adopts an attention-based view (ABV) of the firm to investigate the influence of firms' nationalist tendencies on their green innovation engagement and its boundary conditions.Design/methodology/approachUsing longitudinal data from a cross-industry panel of Chinese listed firms spanning the years 2007-2021, we employed a multidimensional fixed effects linear regression approach to test the hypotheses.FindingsThis study empirically demonstrates that firms with stronger nationalist tendencies are significantly more inclined to engage in green innovation, with robust results. Furthermore, the findings reveal that government environmental orientation and firm environmental subsidies positively moderate the relationship between firms' nationalist tendencies and green innovation, while industry environmental uncertainty serves as a negative moderator.Originality/valueBy examining the influence of firms' nationalist tendencies on their engagement in green innovation, this study enriches the research on the effects of nationalist tendencies and the antecedents of green innovation. Furthermore, this study integrates nationalist tendency into the ABV, offering novel empirical evidence on the situational attention factors that shape the effectiveness of firms' nationalist tendencies in promoting green innovation, thereby advancing the study of the ABV framework.

Abstract :
Given the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) rating divergence on sustainable practices, its antecedents have garnered increasing attention. In the context of growing demands for transparency from investors and policymakers, the effect of open government data (OGD) policies on ESG rating divergence remains underexplored. To address this gap, this study examines the dynamic relationship between OGD policies and ESG rating divergence. Using panel data from Chinese listed firms and employing a difference-in-differences approach, the analysis reveals that OGD policies significantly exacerbate ESG rating divergence in the short term, with pronounced effects observed among firms subject to mandatory disclosure requirements and those with state ownership. However, over time, OGD policies reduce the ESG rating divergence. By offering a dynamic analysis, this research contributes to the literature on OGD policies and ESG assessment by underscoring the role of city-level policies in driving institutional change, thereby enhancing our understanding of ESG variability and public policy impacts.

Abstract :
As one of the most significant public policies of our time, open government data (OGD) has attracted increasing global attention. This study examines the impact of OGD policies on firms' open innovation. Using data on Chinese listed firms from 2008 to 2022, we find that OGD policies implemented by local governments significantly enhance the level of open innovation among local firms. Moreover, the positive effect of OGD policies weakens in highly competitive industries but strengthens under conditions of high market uncertainty. By moving beyond prevailing government-centric perspectives in OGD research, this study advances understanding of the commercial value of OGD and extends the literature on the antecedents of open innovation.

Abstract :
How do chief executive officers' (CEOs) experiences outside the work domain affect organizational ambidexterity? We examine the mechanisms through which CEO family-to-work enrichment (FWE) influences organizational ambidexterity. Building on the enrichment perspective of the family-work literature and the attention-based view, we argue that FWE broadens and deepens CEOs' attention to innovation. This enables them to engage in distant and persistent knowledge and information searching, which helps them to pursue high levels of exploitative and exploratory innovation simultaneously. With a two-round sample of 136 CEOs from China, we find strong empirical support for our hypotheses and provide several theoretical and managerial implications.
